Handwara, Aug 16 :

At least twelve persons, part of a feast, fell ill and were subsequently hospitalized in a suspected food poisoning case in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, sources said.

They told GNS that soon after consuming food, many of them guests, who had come from Hajin, complained of acute stomach ache. The guests taken ill were taken to SDH Kralgund from where several of them were treated and discharged, albeit asked to take precautions by the doctors there. Few of them were referred to DH Handwara and GMC Baramulla for preferential treatment, they said.

The guests taken ill have been identified as; Gh Mohd Ganie (52) son of Habib Ullah, Ajaz Ah Ganie (30) Waseem Ah Ganie (26), Parveena Bano (22) – children of Gh Mohd, Nusrat Begum (25) wife of Ajaz Ah Ganie, Urbal Ajaz son of Ajaz Ah Ganie, Gh Ahmad Ganie (45) son of Habib ullah Ganie, Shaheena Begum (38) wife of Gh Ahmad Ganie, Iqra Jan (12) daughter of Gh Ahmad Ganie, Mehnaz (12) daughter of Gh Ahmed, Dilshada Begum (35) wife of Ab Rashid Ganie, Aahil Rashid (6) son of Ab Rashid and Junaid Bashir (10) son of Bashir Ah Ganie.

When contacted, BMO Langate Dr Firdous Ahmad Bhat told GNS that several patients have been treated and discharged by doctors at SDH Kralgund. “Three minors were referred to DH Handwara and few others to GMC Baramulla” he said adding it may take them a while to recover fully. (GNS)
