Srinagar, Sep 7 :
In a joint operation the Food and Safety Department and the sales tax department at Srinagar airport on Sunday seized around 340 kilograms of unlabelled meat consignment.
Officials told Kashmir News Corner — KNC that the consignment had been booked through air cargo by a Srinagar-based dealer and the consignment is without any declaration.
“The unlabelled meat of 340 kg was found during checking at the cargo section and was seized on the spot,” official said.
Confirming the development, Smiti Sethi, Commissioner Food and Drug Controller J&K, told KNC that the operation is underway and further details will be shared once the process is completed.
Earlier in August, the Food Safety Department carried out multiple raids across Srinagar and other districts, during which nearly 12,000 kilograms of substandard and misbranded food items were destroyed.
In one such drive, teams seized large stocks of unhygienic meat and bakery items from different markets in Srinagar, while notices were served to several dealers found violating food safety norms.
Officials said the operations are part of an intensified crackdown to ensure safe and hygienic food supply in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
