Srinagar, Feb 2 :
A moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Jammu and Kashmir early Monday morning, triggering panic among residents in several areas of the Valley.
As per details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC), the earthquake struck at around 5:35 AM with its epicentre located in Budgam district at coordinates 33.9°N and 74.76°E.
The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to primary data released by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and shared by Kashmir Weather.
The quake was felt in nearby areas including Charar-i-Sharief, Pulwama, Srinagar and Shopian. No immediate reports of loss of life or property damage were received till the filing of this report.
Weather conditions at the epicentre were reported to be overcast with a temperature of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, humidity at 95 per cent and light winds blowing from the west-southwest. (KNC)
