Baramulla: In a tragic road mishap, atleast eight passengers died while as seven others were injured Bujthalan Tatmulla area of Boniyar Uri north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

They said that a vehicle bearing No JK05D 0946 skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge at Bujthalan Tatmulla Uri this afternoon, leaving at least eight persons dead and seven others injured in which condition of three are stated to be more critical.

A police official said a rescue operation was immediately launched at the site of the accident. He said the road had become slippery due to snowfall.He said the injured have been shifted to GMC Baramulla for treatment.

Block Medical Officer Boniyar Uri Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Khan confirmed that seven dead bodies are in Boniyar PHC and eight critically injured have been referred to GMC Baramulla in which condition of three injured is more more critical.

“One critically injured also succumbed to injuries in GMC Baramulla taking death toll to eight,” he added.

RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari said that he personally inspected the documentation of the ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK05D 0946 involved in the accident which are complete. “I have verified that the documents are complete in all respects,” he affirmed.

However, the RTO emphasized that action would be taken in accordance with the law regarding overloading. “It is indeed an unfortunate and tragic accident,” he added solemnly.

The authorities are committed to investigating the incident thoroughly and ensuring accountability for any violations that may have contributed to the tragedy.

RTO Kashmir Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari disclosed that the ill-fated vehicle involved in the tragic Uri accident had already been fined twice for overloading in the month of January. Expressing concern over the repeat offenses, he asserted, “Stern action will be taken against the drivers for overloading. This underscores the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure the safety of passengers on our roads.”

The revelation raises questions about the adherence to safety standards and highlights the urgency for proactive measures to prevent such incidents in the future.As the people mourns the loss of lives, efforts are underway to provide medical assistance to the injured and support to the affected families. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to road safety regulations to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
