A massive accidental blast at Nowgam Police Station on the outskirts of Srinagar late Friday night left nine people dead and 29 others injured, officials said.

A security official told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC the explosion occurred while teams were extracting samples from a large cache of explosives recently seized during the investigation of a white-collar terror module.

“Unfortunaltely 9 people have succumbed to injuries while 29 others are injured,” official said.

He said the blast happened as policemen and forensic experts were handling explosive material that had been brought from Faridabad, Haryana.

The material was part of the 360 kilograms of explosives recovered from the rented residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie, who is currently under investigation, official added.

According to officer, nine bodies have been retrieved from the site of the explosion.

The identities of the deceased are being established, while all 29 injured personnel have been shifted to hospital. (KNC)
