Baramulla: While world celebrates the International Day of Forests on March 2, Human Aid Society (HAS) in collaboration with Department of forest JV Division Baramulla and Kashmir Development Foundation -KDF-UK and Government Boys Middle School Sheeri  organized a plantation drive at Zoo ground in peripheries of Sheeri village of Baramulla district on Monday.

The plantation drive was started by village head Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Bhat flanked by Chairman HAS Bashir Ahmad Mir and Block Officer Forest Block Sheeri Ashiq Ghani. Dozens of deodar or conifer saplings and seed balls were planted by HAS volunteers, teachers and students of BMS Sheeri Payeen and locals and forest officials on this occasion.

Chairman HAS highlighted the importance of ecological balance and plantation of trees in present era of global warming. He urged upon all the stakeholders to actively participate to plant more and more trees to make Har Gawoun Hara- Every Village TO Go Green.    

“We highly appreciated to the efforts of forest Division Baramulla for proving saplings of trees besides helping us in plantation. It must be the duty of every conscious citizen to be involved in this drive and plant more trees so that future generation could be saved from the disastrous consequences of the environmental degradation,’ said Chairman Bashir Ahmad Mir

This year’s theme for the day is ‘Forests and Sustainable production and consumption’ so let us pledge to protect and conserve the forests and be more aware and vigilant, and make informed consumption-related choices to save the forests said Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool.

Another participant, Javid Ahmad Dar, a teacher of BMS Sheeri Payeen said, “When you plant a tree, you don’t just plant a sapling but hope. We Covid-19 pandemic taught how trees are extremely important for our survival.

Reyaz Ahmad Ganai, Secretary Human Aid Society said that every day should be tree plantation day. “We must work towards building a secure future for other generations to come as forest sustainable management and resource use are critical in preventing climate change and contributing to present and future generations’ prosperity and well-being.”
