‘Awareness Campaign continues: Falahudarain organised lectures of medical professionals’

On the 4th day of the Drug De-Addiction Campaign (Wednesday, 11-05-2022), Falahudarain organised a lecture in collaboration with Government Degree College (Boys), Baramulla. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Tajamul Hussain, Assistant Professor and Head Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College Baramulla at the New Conference Hall of the college.

In the hall full of students and college professors, Dr. Tajamul talked about Biological Perspectives of Substance Abuse and its Effects’. He enlightened the audience about the medical nature of drug addiction and its treatment strategies. Making a powerpoint presentation, the doctor highlighted that data related to drug prevalence, its medical complications and the possible institutional treatments. He informed the students that Government Medical Colleges, Baramulla hosts ‘Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF)’ which is approved by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE) Government of India and nationally coordinated by National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), implemented by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi. Furthermore, GMC Baramulla has a separate space of 6 beds ward as De-Addiction OPD (OPD Room and Counselling Room). Speaking on the occasion, the Officiating Principal of the college highlighted the need for organising awareness against drug abuse.

The program was moderated by students of the college. Dr. Naushad Wani, Sr. Assistant Professor welcomed the guests. On behalf of Idarah Falahudarain, Dr. Abdul Rouf thanked the Guest Speaker, the college administration and the students for making the program a success. At the end of the program, a question and answer session was held.


At 8 pm on Wednesday, an online lecture of Dr. Fazl-e-Rub, Senior Resident at Drug De-addiction Centre GMC Srinagar made an online presentation on the theme, ‘Approach towards the treatment of Substance Abuse’. He argued that a better understanding of the complex science of addiction can improve responses to drug problems. He talked about the existing addiction theories and modals for successful prevention and treatment. He explained the relapse after a period of sobriety and the treatment programs that can help patients reach a sustained sobriety. He offered information about the social, psychological and medical means of engagement with the addicted people.
