Congregational prayers to be held at Tangmarg on Tommorow

Tangmarg: On the second day of the sad demise of renowned Kashmiri poet and former Director Sericulture J&K Muzaffar Azim who passed away in the US, condolences continued to pour in on the sad demise besides people offered funeral prayers in absentia at Gotlipora area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir Baramulla district.

Muzzafar Aazim, a native of Gutlipora Tangmarg was settled in US from past many decades now and would visit Kashmir occasionally. He has served Kashmiri language by his prolific poetry and has translated many books including Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace into Kashmiri as Jung te Aman. He was ailing since July 2020.

Aazim took voluntary retirement from service at the age of 50 when he was Director Sericulture to set up a soap unit as a business venture. However, he soon left for the US where he lived with his two sons for the last three decades where he was laid to rest. His sons Dr Parvez Akhtar and Suhail Mir live in Virginia.

Pertinently, he was maternal uncle of Nazir Ahmad Mir (M&Co) Shabir Ahmad Mir and Zahoor Ahmad Mir.
Several literary organizations in Kashmir condoled the demise of Aazim, remembering him as a great lover of Kashmiri language.
Kashmir Images, SNS Kashmir, Human Aid Society, Bazm-e-Adab Gulmarg and many other social and literary bodies recalled Aazim’s rich contributions to the Kashmiri language and literature.

To Aazim’s credit are also various poetic collections, even as he was very closely associated with Adbee Markaz Kamraz, a known Kashmiri literary organisation, during its infancy and was a prominent speaker at its conferences. His novel Awami Raj (Asamee) has bagged an award. Aazim rose to fame for his poetry in early 1970s.

Aazim came out with two collections of poems ‘Zolana’ and ‘Mani-Kaman’ for which he received an award from the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages in the seventies.
