The Handwara Media Association (HMA) on Saturday conducted election of the new office bearers and executive body. Young journalist Aatif Qayoom was elected as the president of the Association (HMA), the scribes’ body said.
Ballot-based elections for the positions of president, vice president, and general secretary were held with a 100 percent turnout.
After due processes, Media Association Handwara’s Election body said Aatif Qayoom has been elected as president, while Shamim Bhat has been elected as vice president, and Raja Akber as general secretary.
On the occasion, the election body was also formed, which can look at all the election activities headed by Farooq Bhat, Aijaz Manzar, and Syed Imtiyaz.
Speaking on the occasion, the Association’s young president, Aatif Qayoom, reaffirmed that he will work for the welfare of media people in addition to protecting the interests of working journalists.
He also thanked the scribes for choosing him as the president of the association, and added “I am thankful to all my colleagues who have shown faith in me despite knowing I was the youngest member of this fraternity.”
He stated, the aim of contesting this election is to bring the whole media fraternity under the one banner.
