SRINAGAR, AUGUST 10:

Stating that the J&K is a militancy affected area, the Ministry of Home Affairs Tuesday informed the parliament that a total of 5886 security personnel have been killed in the UT since 1989 till August 2019.

The Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai was replying to the queries raised in the parliament including the total number of personnel belonging to the paramilitary forces and others killed/attacked fatally in Jammu and Kashmir before repealing the Articles 370 and 35A.

In a written reply, the MoS as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that Jammu and Kashmir has been affected by militant violence.

“Since the eruption of militancy in J&K (from 1989 till August 5, 2019), 5886 security personnel were killed in J&K in militancy incidents”, the Minister informed.

He maintained that the Ex-gratia relief is given to the Next of Kin (NoK) as per the extant rules of the security forces concerned—(KNO)
