SP Sopore says property worth Rs 37.41 lakh attached, 20 booked under PIT NDPS

The Sopore Police district in north Kashmir has made significant strides in combating narcotics during the year 2024, with the authorities claiming to have registered 56 cases, arresting 88 persons and attaching the properties worth lakhs as well.

Speaking to the reporters, SP Sopore, Divya D, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the Police is steadfast in its mission to combat the drug menace that threatens the society. “This year, we registered 56 cases related to narcotics, arrested 88 individuals, and seized contraband worth over Rs 65,078,22 in the black market.”

Throughout the year, 20 persons were booked under PIT NDPS also, who were sent to different jails outside the valley, SP added.

Giving further details, SP Divya said that among the major recoveries were 102 grams of brown sugar, 23 grams of heroin, 8 kilograms of charas, and over 11,000 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon. In addition, property worth Rs 37.41 lakh has been attached in two separate cases under legal provisions.”

Highlighting the police’s proactive measures in destroying seized narcotics, she said that they destroyed 123 kilograms of poppy straw, 2,811 bottles of codeine, and 28,316 Spasmo-Proxyvon capsules, with a combined valuation of Rs 11,309,831.

The SP also highlighted the successful destruction of wild cannabis cultivation in Sopore, saying, “We eliminated illegal wild bung grown on 15 kanals of state land in collaboration with the revenue and other concerned departments.”

Sopore Police chief also appealed to the community to join hands in this fight, urging citizens to report drug-related activities. “Together, we can create a safer, drug-free Sopore,” the SP remarked—(KNO)
