Srinagar:The Department of General Medicine and Chest Medicine at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, organized a heartfelt farewell ceremony on Monday to honor Professor (Dr) Mohammed Mubarik Naqash, the outgoing Head of the Department (HOD) of General Medicine. Dr. Naqash is set to superannuate on Tuesday, marking the conclusion of a distinguished 37-year-long career.
Dr. Naqash, who served as HOD of General Medicine for an impressive 18 years and 4 months, has been instrumental in advancing the field of medicine at SKIMS Bemina. Among his notable achievements are the establishment of Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, and Echocardiography laboratories. He has also mentored 16 postgraduate students in obtaining their MD (General Medicine) degrees.
The farewell event witnessed the presence of prominent faculty members, including Professor Javed Malik, HOD Chest Medicine; Dr. Abdul Ahad, Assistant Professor of General Medicine; Dr. Tariq Bhat, Associate Professor of General Medicine; Dr. Muzafar Naik, Associate Professor of General Medicine; Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Teli, Assistant Professor of General Medicine; and Dr. Mir Elias, Assistant Professor of Chest Medicine. Senior residents, postgraduate students, nursing supervisors, ECG staff, and other members of the department also participated in the ceremony.
The program highlighted Dr. Naqash’s immense contributions and featured a felicitation ceremony, during which he was honored for his dedication and exemplary service. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Javed Malik praised Dr. Naqash as “an exceptional leader and mentor whose contributions to the department and institution are invaluable.”
Dr. Tariq Bhat expressed gratitude for Dr. Naqash’s guidance, remarking, “We will miss his wisdom, but his legacy will continue to inspire us.” Dr. Muzafar Naik lauded him for instilling passion, punctuality, and simplicity among his colleagues and students. Dr. Naqash, in his address, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all those who attended the event and supported him throughout his career.
The ceremony marked the end of an era for SKIMS Bemina, with Professor Naqash leaving behind an enduring legacy of excellence, dedication, and mentorship.
