In rural and struggling families daughters sacrifice their education to support their family. Qayoom wani
SRINAGAR,MAY ,14 :
The Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has strongly condemned the 8th-pass eligibility requirement in the Marriage Assistance Scheme, calling it an unfair restriction that excludes thousands of genuinely needy girls from underprivileged families.
JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said, “Imposing an educational barrier on a welfare scheme meant for the poorest is unjust. In many rural and struggling families, daughters sacrifice education to support household needs—denying them assistance on this basis is deeply insensitive.”
JKCSF demands the following urgent reforms:
- Complete removal of the 8th-pass condition
- Priority coverage for daughters of BPL card holders
- Consideration for families of employees not covered by pension scheme and retired government employees, many of whom face similar hardships
This call for reform is fully endorsed by the Jammu & Kashmir Pensioners United Front (JKPUF) and the , who echo concerns about exclusions and advocate a more inclusive and compassionate policy.
