Pattan, July 31:

Judicial Magistrate Pattan, Altaf Hussain Khan, has convicted a Baramulla resident in a cheque bounce case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, sentencing him to six months of simple imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹6.5 lakh.

The convicted individual, Mohammad Yaqoob Malik, son of Ghulam Nabi Malik, resident of Souch Palpora, Pattan, was found guilty after failing to substantiate his defense during the trial proceedings.

In his judgment, the Magistrate observed, “The accused has not been able to prove the defence. Hence, he stands convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.” The court ordered that the entire fine amount of ₹6,50,000 be paid as compensation to the complainant within 30 days from the date of judgment.

The complainant in the case was represented by Advocate Mohammad Yaseen Khan. (CNS)
