Srinagar, Sep 17 :

The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Transport Commissioner has directed RTO Kashmir and all district ARTO’s for taking strict action against transport companies found overcharging fruit growers and mandi traders in the Valley.

As per the communique to RTO Kashmir and All District ARTO’s by Joint Transport Commissioner Vikas Anand (JKAS) as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, complaints have been pouring in regarding “exorbitant and unjustified fares” being charged from fruit growers and traders, causing undue hardship to them.

To curb this malpractice, Regional Transport Officers and Assistant Regional Transport Officers across Kashmir Division have been directed to immediately constitute Special Enforcement Teams.

The enforcement teams will carry out surprise checks at prominent fruit mandis to ensure growers and sellers are not harassed or overcharged. Officials have also been asked to submit a daily compliance report without fail. An enforcement team led by ARTO Mauzam Ali at Srinagar has been tasked to cover two districts in a day and report action taken in case of complaints. (KNC)
