A dead body was recovered from the River Jhelum in Vervan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, triggering shock among locals.

According to reports, the body was spotted by passersby who immediately informed the police. A team from Police Station Baramulla, headed by SHO Owais Geelani, rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the river with the assistance of locals.

Officials said the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. The body has been taken into custody for medico-legal formalities, and further investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of death.

Police confirmed that details will be shared once preliminary inquiries and identification are completed.
