Iltija Mufti retains Bijbehara seat; Naeem Akther back in active politic

The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday nominated constituency in-charges for South Kashmir, Ganderbal, and Bandipora districts.

As per an official handout, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has nominated senior leaders as constituency in-charges to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the upcoming Panchayat and local body elections.

The party has nominated Abdul Rehman Veeri (Anantnag East, Shangus constituency), Dr. Mehboob Beg (Anantnag), Adv. Sheikh Javed (Anantnag West), Dr. Shabir Siddiqi (Pahalgam), Iltija Mufti (Srigufwara, Bijbehara), Chowdhary Talib (Kokernag- ST), and Mohd Ashraf Malik (Dooru).

In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the party has nominated Mohd Sartaj Madani (Devsar) and Gulzar Ahmad Dar (DH Pora).

The PDP has retained Zahoor Ahmad Mir (Pampore), Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra (Pulwama), and Rafiq Ahmad Naik (Tral) as constituency in-charges.

In Shopian district, Ajaz Ahmad Mir (Zainapora, Wachi) and Raja Waheed (Shopian) have been nominated as constituency in-charges.

The party has nominated Bashir Ahmad Mir (Ganderbal) and Jamaat Ali Shaheen (Kangan) as constituency in-charges.

PDP ideologue and strategist Naeem Akther is back in active politics, as the party has nominated him as constituency in-charge for Bandipora.

Former MLC Yasir Reshi, who fought the 2024 Assembly elections as a candidate backed by the Awami Ittehad Party led by Er. Rashid, has been nominated as constituency in-charge for Sonawari seat.

The party has appointed Adv. Asif Iqbal Chowdhary as constituency in-charge for Rajouri segment.

However, the absence of several key figures -including senior leader Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Gulzar Ahmad Wani,Yawar Bandey, and Gaffar Sofi -has drawn attention within political circles—(KNO)
