Karra to chair meeting of MLAs, senior Leaders

Srinagar, Oct 12 :

Amid the ongoing stalemate between the National Conference and the Congress over Rajya Sabha seat allocations, the Congress has convened a crucial meeting of its senior leaders and MLAs at the party headquarters on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), senior party leader and Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat said the meeting has been called to deliberate on the situation arising from alliance-related issues and to receive directives from the party high command.

The meeting will be chaired by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Tariq Hamid Karra.

As previously reported by KNO, the Congress is pressing for the allotment of a safer seat-one of those notified by the Election Commission of India through the first and second notifications. However, the National Conference has offered Congress a seat notified under the third notification, for which the alliance holds 24 second-preference votes after securing 29 first-preference votes, enough to ensure the victory of one candidate. The BJP, however, has 28 votes in this seat.

In the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the ruling alliance has 53 members, while the BJP holds 28 members—(KNO)
