New Delhi, Oct 17 :
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday ordered a judicial inquiry into the September 24 Leh incident, which led to a serious law and order situation and the unfortunate death of four individuals following police action.
As per a notification issued by the Department of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Affairs, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the inquiry will be conducted by Hon’ble Dr. Justice B.S. Chauhan, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
The decision follows the registration of FIR No. 144/2025 at Police Station Leh under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, pertaining to offences linked to unlawful assembly, public disorder, and violence.
The MHA stated that it is “imperative to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the law and order situation, the subsequent police action, and the resultant deaths.”
Justice Chauhan will be assisted by Sh. Mohan Singh Parihar (Retd. District & Sessions Judge) as Judicial Secretary and Sh. Tushar Anand (IAS) as Administrative Secretary during the course of the inquiry.
The notification, issued by Prashant S. Lokhande, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, confirms that the judicial commission will investigate all aspects of the incident to ensure accountability and transparency in the matter. — (KNC)
