Srinagar, Nov 09 (KNO): A fresh political row erupted on Sunday after Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma challenged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to “swear on the holy Quran” that he hadn’t sought an alliance with the BJP for statehood in 2024.

Reacting strongly to the statement, Omar Abdullah took to social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), and said, “I swear on the Holy Quran that I didn’t seek an alliance with the BJP in 2024 for Statehood or for any other reason. Unlike Sunil Sharma I don’t tell lies for a living.”

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the remarks came after Sharma, while addressing media persons during BJP’s campaigning program for its Budgam bye-election candidate, dared Omar Abdullah to take an oath on the Quran regarding his alleged attempt to form an alliance with the BJP.

The exchange has triggered a fresh war of words between the two parties ahead of the Budgam Assembly bypolls.

Reacting to Omar Abdullah’s statement, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, asked the Chief Minister to swear now that he didn’t make attempts to ally with BJP in 2014.

“Sir, @OmarAbdullah Now swear for 2014, that you never tried to ally with BJP, the truth your own friend Late Devinder Singh Rana had already told,” Parra wrote.

On Parra’s comments, NC spokesman, Imran Nabi Dar, asked him to swear that PDP MLA’s did not vote for BJP or deliberately cancelled vote in recent RS polls.

“You are following @BJP4India really well. Sunil Sharma must be really happy with you. Why don’t you leave the Holy Quran out and keep your hand on your heart to swear that @jkpdp MLA’s did not vote for BJP or deliberately cancelled vote in recent RS polls?,” Dar wrote—(KNO)
