The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered the promotion of several Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the AGMUT cadre to the ranks of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP), including a number of officers belonging to and serving in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per two separate official orders issued on December 19 as per news agency, the promotions were approved following the recommendations of the Screening Committee meeting held on December 8, 2025. The promotions will take effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.

A total of 20 IPS officers of the 2012 batch of the AGMUT cadre, currently posted in the cadre, have been promoted to the DIGP grade (Level 13-A in the Pay Matrix). These include Manoj Kumar Meena, Sargun Shukla, Rohit Meena, Nidhin Valsan, Abhishek Dhania, Ravi Kumar Singh, Devesh Kumar Mahla, Jitendra Kumar Meena, Rajesh Deo, Rakesh Paweriya, Bhisham Singh, Rajeev Ranjan, Mohammed Ali, Dingluaia, Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Nasim Manhas and Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma.

Among them, IPS officers from Jammu and Kashmir promoted to DIG rank include Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Nasim Manhas and Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma, while Sandeep Choudhary, also from J&K, has been granted proforma promotion as he is currently on Central Deputation.

Meanwhile, four AGMUT cadre IPS officers of the 2012 batch currently serving on Central Deputation M Harsha Vardhan, Dr Navdeep Singh Brar, Sandeep Choudhary and Guriqbal Singh have been granted proforma promotion to the DIGP rank. Their actual promotion will take effect from the date their immediate juniors assume charge in the cadre.

In a separate order, the MHA promoted IPS officers of the 2008 batch of the AGMUT cadre to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Level 14 in the Pay Matrix). Officers promoted on a regular basis include Chinmoy Biswal, Tejinder Singh, Sanjay Kumar Tyagi and Ajay Krishan Sharma.

Among these, Tejinder Singh, who belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, has been promoted to the IGP rank.

Additionally, six IPS officers of the 2008 batch currently on Central Deputation Atul Kumar Thakur, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Anto Alphones, Devender Arya, Abdul Jabbar and Udayabhaskar Billa have been granted proforma promotion to the IGP rank with effect from January 1, 2026. Abdul Jabbar and Udayabhaskar Billa, both from Jammu and Kashmir, are among those granted proforma promotion.

The orders have been issued with the approval of the competent authority, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
