Existing Wine shops generated revenue running into thousands of crores across J&K in last two years

The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that there is no proposal to open new wine shops in the Union Territory.

In a written reply by the Finance Department, given by the Minister In-Charge, Finance Department, to a question raised by MLA Arjun Singh Raju as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the government said that “As of now, no new liquor licences are proposed to be issued in Jammu and Kashmir during the next financial year.”

The government furnished district-wise revenue generated from existing wine shops during the last two financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25.

As per the official data, the revenue figures generated in division with district Jammu generated ₹48,350.15 revenue in 2024, ₹50,913.93 in 2025. In Udhampur: ₹11,322.00 in 2024, ₹12,061.50 in 2025. In Reasi: ₹3,371.00 in 2024, ₹3,450.50 in 2025. In Kathua ₹10,653.00 in 2024, ₹11,272.00 in 2025. In Samba ₹9,138.06 in 2024, ₹9,740.15 in 2025. In Doda ₹2,353.61 in 2024, ₹2,448.17 in 2025.

Likewise, In Kishtwar ₹1,681.90 in 2024, ₹1,887.59 in 2025. In Ramban ₹2,299.95 in 2024, ₹2,476.70 in 2025. In Rajouri ₹4,806.19 in 2024, ₹5,336.96 in 2025. In Poonch ₹1,497.78 in 2024, ₹1,768.92 in 2025.

In Kashmir division’s, Srinagar district ₹5,489.67 revenue was generated in 2024, ₹6,557.66 in 2025. In Ganderbal ₹223.45 revenue was generated in 2024, ₹319.69 in 2025. In Baramulla ₹872.23 2024, ₹1,139.84 in 2025. In Kupwara ₹415.66 in 2024, ₹442.96 in 2025. In Anantnag ₹1,403.50 in 2024, ₹1,999.50 in 2025.

The government further clarified, that no complaints regarding issuance of benami liquor licences have been received. It clarified that all licences are issued strictly to domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir, as per provisions of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, and the Excise Policy notified from time to time. (KNC)
