In a decisive move to safeguard public order and communal harmony, Srinagar Police has launched a major crackdown against the circulation of fake, fabricated and misleading information being spread across electronic and social media platforms.
Taking serious cognizance of the deliberate dissemination of distorted narratives by certain news channels, media outlets and individuals, police authorities have termed the campaign as a calculated attempt to incite unrest and disturb peace in the Valley. Officials said such misinformation poses a grave threat to societal stability, security and the integrity of the nation.
Acting firmly against the perpetrators, Srinagar Police has registered FIR No. 01/2026 at the Cyber Police Station under relevant legal provisions. Several social media profiles allegedly involved in spreading unverified and inflammatory content have been identified, and the concerned individuals have been summoned to the Cyber Cell for questioning.
Police sources confirmed that investigations are actively underway and strict legal action will be initiated against anyone found guilty of promoting fake news or attempting to create disharmony.
Issuing a stern warning, Srinagar Police made it clear that the circulation of false information, provocative content or unverified claims will invite stringent legal consequences.
Citizens and media organizations have been urged to act responsibly and verify facts through official and credible sources before sharing any content that could potentially disturb public order or communal harmony.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, Srinagar Police stated that it remains resolute and vigilant, and will not allow any attempt to destabilize peace in the region.(KNC)
