Jammu, Mar 23 :

A local court in Jammu on Monday remanded the accused in the firing incident involving National Conference president Farooq Abdullah to judicial custody till April 6 after completion of his police remand.

According to details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the accused was produced before the court following the expiry of his police custody. In the absence of the city judge, the matter was heard by a sub-judge, who ordered his judicial remand.

The incident had taken place on March 11 in the Greater Kailash area, where the accused allegedly opened fire at Abdullah while he was leaving a function. He was immediately overpowered and arrested on the spot along with the weapon.

Officials said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case, while charges including attempt to murder and provisions of the Arms Act have been invoked.

Further legal proceedings in the matter are underway. (KNC)
