Committee directs strict adherence to NCERT curriculum; violation may lead to de-recognition
The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a strict circular directing private schools not to compel parents to purchase expensive books from private publishers, warning of stern action against violations.
As per the circular issued by April 17, 2026, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, complaints have been received that some schools are forcing parents to buy books costing around ₹3500, allegedly in nexus with private publishers to gain monetary benefits. The committee observed that such practices amount to profiteering and place an undue financial burden on parents.
The FFRC reiterated that as per guidelines of affiliating bodies including CBSE and JKBOSE, only NCERT-prescribed books are part of the approved curriculum, and private schools have no authority to enforce the purchase of additional costly material.
It further directed all private schools to strictly comply with these norms and submit compliance reports, failing which action including de-recognition may be initiated against institutions found violating the orders. — (KNC)
