Srinagar, Apr 24 :

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday said that curbing drug addiction requires a collective societal effort, asserting that the government alone cannot eradicate the growing menace.

Speaking to reporters as pwr news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, “Drug addiction has deeply affected our society. It cannot be eliminated unless parents and the public actively support the efforts. Government action alone is not enough.”

He emphasized that public participation remains the most crucial element in tackling the crisis, stating that only through joint efforts of families and communities can the impact of substance abuse be reduced.

“If society comes forward and plays its role, the suffering caused by drug addiction can be overcome,” he added.

Commenting on political developments, Abdullah claimed that the National Conference has effectively checked the BJP’s influence in Kashmir, while also referring to trends in other states.

He said that Mamata Banerjee is likely to retain power in West Bengal, while Congress appears to be leading in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, he said, Congress along with M.K. Stalin’s party is expected to secure victory.

Abdullah attributed these outcomes to the “grace of Allah.”

On global issues, he stressed the urgent need for peace, particularly in the Middle East, warning that prolonged conflict could have serious global repercussions.

“If peace is not restored in the Middle East, the consequences will be severe for the entire world. All nations and leaders must work towards ending the conflict immediately,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the United States leadership, along with countries like China and Russia, would take steps to de-escalate tensions and help bring an end to the ongoing war. (KNC)
