New Delhi, Apr 25 :
The Election Commission of India has directed immediate disciplinary action, including suspension of five police officers posted in Diamond Harbour Police District, for alleged misconduct and failure to maintain neutrality during the ongoing West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2026.
In a communique to chief secretary as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the Commission has acted on a communication received from the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, and ordered strict action against officers found responsible for serious lapses in election duty.
The officers directed to be suspended include Sandip Garai, IPS (Addl. SP, Diamond Harbour), Sajal Mondal (SDPO Diamond Harbour), Mausam Chakraborty (IC Diamond Harbour PS), Ajay Bag (IC Falta PS), and Subhechha Bag (OC Usthi PS).
In addition, a warning has been issued to the Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour, Dr. Ishani Pal, for supervisory lapses and failure to ensure discipline and neutrality among subordinate officers in sensitive election-related matters.
The Election Commission has directed that disciplinary proceedings be initiated forthwith and a compliance report be submitted by April 25, 2026. (KNC)
