Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather nominates members to Financial, Ethics, Privileges, Environment and other Committees

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday issued a series of notifications constituting several key House Committees for the year 2026-27, with Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather nominating members to various financial and subject committees of the Assembly.

According to the notification, consensus was reached among legislature parties for nominating members to the three Financial Committees instead of holding elections under the principle of proportional representation.

The Committee on Public Accounts has been constituted with Surjeet Singh Slathia as Chairman, while Mubarik Gul, Tariq Hameed Karra, Shamim Firdous, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo), Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi), Ranbir Singh Pathania, Choudhary Mohammad Akram, Vikram Randhawa and Tanvir Sadiq have been nominated as members.

For the Estimates Committee, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) has been appointed Chairman. Other members include Sham Lal Sharma, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, Mushtaq Guroo, Irshad Rasool Kar, Sajad Shaheen, Sunil Bhardwaj and Payare Lal Sharma.

The Public Undertakings Committee will be headed by Mir Saifullah as Chairman, with Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani, Rajiv Jasrotia, Saif-ud-Din Bhat, Mian Mehar Ali, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Arjun Singh Raju, Mohan Lal and Rafiq Ahmad Naik as members.

The Speaker also constituted several other Assembly committees for the period ending March 31, 2027.

The Environment Committee will be chaired by senior CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami. Members include Prof Gharu Ram, Sajad Gani Lone, Baldev Raj Sharma, Daleep Singh, Showkat Hussain Ganie, Javaid Ahmad Mirchal, Dr Sajjad Shafi, Salman Sagar, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Dr Rameshwar Singh and Devyani Rana.

Muzaffar Iqbal Khan has been named Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, while Justice Hasnain Masoodi will head the Committee on Privileges.

Similarly, Peerzada Farooq Ahmad Shah has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Petitions, while Ali Mohammad Sagar will head the Committee on Government Assurances.

The Ethics Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, whereas the Speaker himself will serve as Ex-officio Chairman of the Library Committee, General Purposes Committee, Rules Committee, and House Committee.

The notifications issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat stated that the committees have been constituted under various provisions of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Legislative Assembly.(KNC)
