Baramulla, May 18 :

A massive fire broke out on Monday evening at BK Traders godown, which stores paint and paint-related goods, in the Kanli Bagh area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the fire spread rapidly through the premises, triggering panic in the area as thick plumes of smoke engulfed the locality.

He said several fire tenders were immediately pressed into service from Baramulla, while additional firefighting vehicles were also rushed from Sopore due to the intensity of the blaze.

“Personnel from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and local residents also joined the firefighting operation to help contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures,” the official said.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the presence of paint and other highly inflammable material inside the godown further intensified the blaze, making firefighting efforts difficult.

“The fire is massive and has not yet been brought under control, though joint efforts are underway to contain it,” the official said, adding that the cause of the fire was not immediately known. No casualties or injuries were reported. —(KNO)
