Srinagar, May 30:
Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) and President of the Jammu Kashmir Pensioners United Front (JKPUF), Ab Qayoom Wani, has expressed serious concern over the difficulties being faced by Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir due to the recent restrictions on baggage allowance and the transportation of luggage.
Wani stated that Hajj pilgrims undertake this sacred journey after years of preparation and considerable financial sacrifice. The reduction of baggage allowance from 40 kilograms to 30 kilograms has caused immense inconvenience and anxiety among the pilgrims. Equally concerning is the decision that a portion of the baggage will not accompany the pilgrims on their return flights and will instead be transported separately by road, reaching Hajj House much later.
He said that pilgrims traditionally bring Tabarruk (sacred gifts and souvenirs) from the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah for their family members, relatives, friends, and well-wishers. Delayed delivery of baggage deprives them of the opportunity to share these cherished blessings upon their return and causes unnecessary hardship and disappointment.
Ab Qayoom Wani urged the concerned authorities, including the Hajj Committee, Civil Aviation authorities, and airport management, to immediately review these decisions and provide suitable relief to the pilgrims of Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed for restoration of the previous baggage allowance or the formulation of a practical mechanism that ensures pilgrims receive their luggage promptly upon arrival.
Wani emphasized that every possible effort should be made to facilitate the comfort, dignity, and convenience of Hajj pilgrims, who deserve the highest level of care and consideration while performing this sacred religious obligation.
He expressed hope that the administration will take immediate cognizance of the issue and address the genuine grievances of the Hajj pilgrims in a timely and compassionate manner.
