HAS Society hails appointment, says it reflects Justice Magrey’s continued commitment to justice, legal excellence and public service

Srinagar, May 31:

Former Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, Justice (Retd.) Ali Mohammad Magrey, has been empanelled as a Senior Panel Counsel with the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC), marking another significant milestone in his distinguished legal career.
Justice Magrey’s name figures among 164 senior advocates empanelled with the SCLSC following a unanimous decision of the Committee’s Executive Committee during its 72nd meeting held on March 12, 2026.
The empanelled senior advocates will render their services to the Committee entirely on a pro bono basis and their empanelment has come into effect from May 15, 2026.
Welcoming the development, the HAS Society congratulated Justice Magrey and described the appointment as a recognition of his outstanding contribution to the judiciary and his unwavering commitment to public service and access to justice.
Justice Magrey is already a designated Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court. He also serves as an arbitrator with the Delhi International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
In addition, he is associated with several premier judicial and academic institutions. He serves as visiting faculty at the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, and the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, Mumbai. He is also a visiting faculty member at K.R. Mangalam University, Delhi, and serves on the university’s advisory board.
Justice Magrey was appointed as a permanent judge of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court on March 8, 2013. During his judicial career, he earned widespread recognition for his legal acumen, integrity and commitment to the rule of law.
Born on December 8, 1960, in Wattoo village of Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Justice Magrey received his early education in his native village before obtaining his graduation and LL.B. (Honours) degree from the University of Kashmir.
He enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and began his legal practice in district courts, including revenue courts and tribunals, before rising through the ranks to become one of the most respected judicial figures from Jammu and Kashmir.
