Chandigarh, May 31 :
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has placed former CBI Court Special Judge Rajeev Goyal under suspension with immediate effect, pending the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against him.
Rajeev Goyal, who earlier served as Special Judge of the CBI Court in Panchkula, was serving as Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kaithal, at the time the suspension order was issued.
According to an order dated May 29 issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, the suspension was approved by the Chief Justice and Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in exercise of powers under Article 235 of the Constitution of India and Rule 4(b) of the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016.
The order stated that disciplinary proceedings are being contemplated against the judicial officer. However, no specific reason for the suspension has been mentioned. The action is understood to be related to the period when Goyal was posted as Special Judge of the CBI Court in Panchkula.
The High Court has directed that Goyal’s headquarters during the suspension period shall remain at Kaithal. He has also been instructed not to leave the headquarters without prior permission from the District and Sessions Judge, Kaithal.
Goyal was transferred to Kaithal as Additional District and Sessions Judge over a month ago.
Notably, the CBI Special Court in Panchkula has jurisdiction over all CBI cases registered across Haryana. Further details regarding the proposed disciplinary proceedings are awaited.(KNC)
