Srinagar, June 16th :
The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has sought a response from the UT administration on a petition seeking allotment of land in Srinagar for a housing colony aimed at the return and rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
The petition, filed by the Displaced Kashmiri Residents Housing Cooperative Society, urges the government to implement rehabilitation commitments and recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in 2009. The society alleges that despite repeated representations, no decision has been taken on its proposal.
Hearing the matter, Justice Shahzad Azeem issued notice to the authorities and sought their response. The petition also seeks enforcement of rehabilitation commitments made before the Supreme Court, including a package worth ₹1,618.40 crore announced for displaced families.CNS
