Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat (IPS) on Saturday chaired a high-level Union Territory-wide security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to comprehensively assess the security architecture, traffic regulation, disaster preparedness and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
The meeting brought together senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, Traffic Police, Railway Police and other security organisations entrusted with ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Among those who attended the meeting were the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Special Director General (Coordination) J&K, Additional Director General of Police (CID), senior officers of the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, CID, Railway Police, Security Wing, Traffic Wing, district police chiefs and other top-ranking security officials from across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the review, senior officers presented detailed briefings on the prevailing security scenario, deployment plans, traffic management, surveillance measures and the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safe, peaceful and uninterrupted movement of pilgrims throughout the Yatra.
Addressing the meeting, DGP Nalin Prabhat directed all security agencies to remain on the highest level of operational alertness and further strengthen coordination and intelligence-sharing at every level. He instructed field formations to intensify area domination exercises, night patrolling, surveillance operations and security checks, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the Baltal and Pahalgam Yatra routes and other vulnerable locations.
The Police Chief also directed officers to maintain strict vigilance over anti-national and disruptive elements to ensure that no attempt is made to disturb peace or hinder the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Reviewing the registration and verification mechanism, the DGP stressed strict verification of pilgrims’ identity documents and called for the effective use of the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered yatris. He instructed officers to address issues concerning unregistered pilgrims promptly and in coordination with the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), while ensuring that only validly registered pilgrims are allowed to undertake the pilgrimage in accordance with prescribed guidelines.
The meeting also reviewed disaster management preparedness in view of changing weather conditions. DGP Prabhat directed all concerned agencies to keep contingency plans fully operational and ensure the availability of adequate manpower, rescue teams, medical facilities and emergency resources to respond effectively to any weather-related situation. He emphasised timely evacuation, immediate medical assistance, shelter arrangements and other emergency support services to safeguard the lives of pilgrims and tourists.
The DGP further instructed officers to adopt a people-friendly and service-oriented approach while discharging their duties. He called upon all personnel deployed on Yatra duty to remain accessible, courteous and responsive, ensuring prompt assistance to pilgrims at every stage of the pilgrimage.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and all participating security agencies towards ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Yatra, DGP Nalin Prabhat expressed confidence that through constant vigilance, robust security measures, effective coordination and collective efforts, the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 would continue to be conducted safely, smoothly and successfully across the Union Territory.
