Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani, Justice Rahul Bharti Emphasise Judicial Integrity, Criminal Law Expertise and Continuous Learning

The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy on Saturday conducted the proceedings of Day-44 of the Pre-Appointment Induction Training Programme (Batch-2026) for newly appointed Civil Judges (Junior Division) at its Mominabad campus in Srinagar under the patronage of Acting Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Kumar and the guidance of Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Chairman of the Governing Committee of the J&K Judicial Academy.
According to an official press release, the forenoon sessions were delivered by Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani, Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, on the topics “Criminal Proceedings: From Registration of FIR to Cognizance” and “Commencement of Trial and Judicial Management of Criminal Cases.”
During his address, Justice Wani highlighted the significance of induction training in bridging academic knowledge with practical judicial functioning. He sensitised the trainee judicial officers to various stages of criminal proceedings, including investigation, cognizance, framing of charges, recording of evidence and effective judicial management of criminal trials. He also stressed the importance of judicial discretion, adherence to procedural safeguards, and maintaining independence, integrity and ethical standards while discharging judicial responsibilities.
The afternoon session featured an inspiring address by Justice Rahul Bharti, Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, who reminded the newly appointed Civil Judges that they had entered a profession where every judicial decision carries lasting consequences. He urged the officers to uphold seriousness, dedication and maturity in judicial service and described every challenge as an opportunity for learning and professional growth.
Justice Bharti further observed that while promotions may come with length of service, true professional success depends on acquiring knowledge, developing competence and earning respect through integrity, hard work and excellence in judicial performance. He encouraged the trainees to remain humble, continue learning throughout their careers and discharge their duties with compassion, confidence and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Director of the Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy, Naseer Ahmad Dar, highlighted the extensive judicial experience of the resource persons and interacted with the trainee officers throughout the programme. He emphasised the need for continuous learning, active participation and a practical understanding of criminal law for the effective discharge of judicial responsibilities.
The proceedings concluded on an interactive note, with trainee Civil Judges actively participating in discussions and seeking clarifications on practical and procedural aspects of criminal law, making the training programme both enriching and professionally rewarding. (KNC)
