JAMMU, AUGUST 17 :
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sub-Inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, posted at Police Station Janipur, Jammu, in connection with an alleged bribery case.
According to a press release issued by the CBI, the agency registered a case on August 16, 2026, on the basis of a complaint alleging that the accused police officer had demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 from the complainant for not registering an FIR against him in connection with a marital dispute.
The CBI said that following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹10,000 from the complainant.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on August 16 and allegedly caught the Sub-Inspector red-handed while demanding and accepting the ₹10,000 bribe from the complainant.
The arrest marks another action by the central agency against alleged corruption in public service, particularly involving the misuse of official position for monetary gain.
The CBI has stated that investigation in the case is continuing. Further details are likely to emerge as the investigation progresses.(KNC)
