SRINAGAR, AUGUST 26 :

Police have arrested two accused in separate POCSO cases who had allegedly escaped from Central Jail Srinagar three days ago, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Farman Khan and Mukhtar Gujar, were apprehended in Rajasthan during the intervening night of August 25-26, following specific inputs and a tip-off shared by Srinagar Police.

A senior J&K Police officer said the arrests were made in coordination with the Rajasthan Police, following sustained efforts by Srinagar Police to track the absconding accused.

“The arrest was carried out in cooperation with the State Police at the instance of and on the tip-off provided by Srinagar Police, which was closely following the matter during the investigation of the case,” the officer said.

The two accused were lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with separate cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to officials, the accused had allegedly fled from the jail on August 23, prompting police to launch an extensive search operation and issue lookout notices to trace and apprehend them.

Following their arrest in Rajasthan, further legal proceedings are underway, officials said.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding their escape from the jail and the subsequent movement of the accused.(KNC)
