Srinagar, August 27:
Senior IPS officer Sujit Kumar has taken over as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, following the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s latest order regarding the transfer and posting of senior police officers.
Sujit Kumar, an experienced Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, assumed charge of the Kashmir Zone on Thursday and is expected to oversee policing, security and law-and-order arrangements across the region.
His appointment comes as part of a major reshuffle in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, under which several senior officers have been transferred and posted to new assignments.
The new IGP Kashmir is expected to focus on strengthening security arrangements, maintaining law and order, enhancing coordination among security agencies and further improving policing and public safety measures across the Kashmir Valley.
The senior police officer formally assumed charge from his predecessor and is scheduled to interact with senior officers and field formations to review the prevailing security and policing situation in the Kashmir Zone.
The appointment of Sujit Kumar marks a significant change in the senior police leadership of Kashmir and comes at a time when effective coordination, professional policing and continued engagement with the public remain key priorities for the security establishment.(KNC)
