Directs Security Agencies to Step Up Area Domination, Crack Down on Narco-Terror Networks and Monitor Digital Threats
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 1:
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting with senior civil and police officials to review the overall security situation and assess strategic preparedness across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting focused on the prevailing security scenario, counter-terrorism operations, law and order, drug trafficking, emerging cyber threats and coordination among various security and intelligence agencies.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Chandraker Bharti, Special Director General of Police (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Additional Director General of Police (Criminal Investigation Department) M.K. Sinha, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Sujit Kumar, Inspector General of Police Jammu Tejinder Singh, Inspector General of Police Crime Branch Sarah Rizvi, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspectors General and other senior officers.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor directed senior officers to maintain sustained pressure on terrorist networks and further strengthen operational coordination at the ground level.
He called for an intensified area domination strategy aimed at preventing emerging threats and ensuring that terrorist networks are decisively dismantled.
Sinha also stressed the importance of strengthening public confidence in the police and security apparatus. He directed police officials to establish regular and direct engagement with citizens and designate specific hours for public interaction and grievance redressal.
Reviewing the functioning of police stations, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that complaints must be handled in a transparent, impartial and sensitive manner. He directed investigating officers to conduct inquiries and investigations with the highest standards of professionalism and fairness.
“The police must maintain a strong and continuous engagement with the public. Every genuine grievance must be addressed with sensitivity and every investigation must be conducted with absolute fairness, transparency and impartiality,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies for their effective action against drug smugglers. He directed officials to further intensify efforts against narco-terror networks, which involve the use of illicit drug trafficking to support terrorist activities.
He also called for enhanced monitoring of emerging threats in the digital and cyber domain.
Expressing concern over the misuse of social media platforms, Sinha directed officials to closely monitor digital platforms to counter anti-national propaganda, misinformation, disinformation and online blackmailing.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that security agencies must remain alert to changing methods used by hostile elements and take timely preventive measures to safeguard peace and public order.
During the meeting, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Principal Secretary of the Home Department Chandraker Bharti briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the overall security situation across Jammu and Kashmir.
Inspector Generals of Police, Deputy Inspectors General and Divisional Commissioners also apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the situation in their respective jurisdictions, including counter-terrorism operations, law and order, drug trafficking and other emerging security challenges.
The meeting also witnessed detailed deliberations on several other critical security and administrative issues concerning the Union Territory.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor directed all officers to maintain heightened operational vigilance, seamless coordination among agencies and a proactive security approach to effectively counter emerging threats.
He further emphasized the need for coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to safeguard peace, strengthen public confidence and ensure the maintenance of law and order across Jammu and Kashmir.(KNC)
