Tightening its noose around corrupt public servants, the Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday trapped and arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the Office of the Assistant Commissioner (General), Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting ₹15,000 as illegal gratification.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Late Ram Murti, a resident of Gango Chack, Gajansoo, Jammu.
The ACB said it received a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant for facilitating the issuance of a Marriage Certificate under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Following negotiations, the alleged bribe amount was reduced to ₹15,000.
After the complainant approached the ACB, the allegations were discreetly verified. The verification reportedly established a prima facie case of demand for illegal gratification, following which FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, was registered at Police Station ACB Central J&K, Jammu.
The anti-graft agency thereafter constituted a trap team and laid a successful operation. During the trap, the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant.
The tainted cash was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, following which the accused was arrested on the spot.
Subsequently, the ACB carried out searches at the residential premises of the accused government employee in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
