Srinagar, Sept 8:
National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday led party leaders in paying tributes to NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 44th death anniversary at his mausoleum in Naseem Bagh, Hazratbal.
Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah offered floral tributes and Fateha at the grave of the veteran leader. Senior NC leaders, legislators, functionaries and party workers also gathered at the mausoleum to commemorate Sheikh Abdullah and recall his political legacy.
The leaders remembered Sheikh Abdullah’s role in shaping the political history of Jammu and Kashmir and his contribution to the National Conference and the people of the erstwhile state.
Party leaders said his legacy continues to occupy an important place in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, popularly known as ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’, founded the National Conference and served as the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He died on September 8, 1982.
