Material Found to Be Copper Plates Coated with Gold Colour; Preliminary Inquiry Initiated
QAZIGUND, SEPTEMBER 18 :
During naka checking on the National Highway near Vessu in Qazigund, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MP09CS0451 and apprehended three persons travelling in the vehicle for questioning.
During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, the naka party recovered 658 gold-like biscuits/coins, each weighing approximately 0.98 grams, from their possession under suspicious circumstances.
The recovered material was seized and subsequently subjected to examination and analysis to ascertain its actual composition.
On testing, the material was found to be copper plates coated/plated with gold colour and not pure gold, officials said.
In connection with the recovery, a preliminary inquiry has been initiated at Police Station Qazigund vide DD Report No. 16 dated 17/09/2026 and Order No. SDPO/Q/PE/8230 dated 18/09/2026.
The inquiry is aimed at ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the possession of the material, its source and intended use, besides determining the role of the persons involved.
Police said that further investigation/inquiry is underway and additional details are expected to emerge as the process progresses.(KNC)
