Srinagar, September 20 :

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three persons, including a Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) and an Agricultural Extension Assistant (AEA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Department, in connection with an alleged bribery case.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on September 19 following allegations that the SDAO had demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a complainant for releasing a subsidy under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP)

The CBI alleged that the officer had directed the complainant to pay the bribe either to the Agricultural Extension Assistant or to a private individual.

Following the complaint, the agency laid a trap and allegedly caught the AEA and the private person while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant, the CBI said.

The SDAO was subsequently arrested from his residence, it added.

The CBI has launched further investigation into the case.(KNS)
