IGP Sujit Kumar Reviews Beat Policing Framework at PCR Kashmir; Officers Directed to Strengthen Community Engagement

The Kashmir Police has called for a comprehensive strengthening of beat-level policing, with greater emphasis on accountability, preventive action, community outreach and the use of modern technology for effective monitoring at the grassroots level.
A one-day conference on Beat-Level Policing was organised at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir on Saturday by Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir to sensitise field officers and review the functioning of the beat policing mechanism across the Valley.
The conference was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Sujit Kumar-IPS and attended by Range Deputy Inspectors General, district Senior Superintendents of Police, SSP PCR Kashmir and other senior field officers from across Kashmir Zone.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP underscored the importance of developing a responsive, accountable and technology-driven beat policing system, describing effective grassroots policing as an important component of preventive policing and stronger police-public relations.
During the deliberations, Range DIGs reviewed the existing beat policing arrangements in their respective jurisdictions and highlighted various operational challenges requiring attention at the field level.
The discussions covered several key areas, including rationalisation of beat areas, crime mapping, identification of vulnerable locations, preventive interventions, surveillance mechanisms and coordination among field formations.
Officers were also sensitised about clearly defining the duties and responsibilities of Beat Officers and ensuring uniformity in the implementation of prescribed beat policing procedures.
A major focus of the conference was on the digitisation of Beat Books and the adoption of structured data systems to improve the availability, accuracy and usability of information at the beat level.
The participating officers also deliberated on greater utilisation of CCTV networks, police databases and other digital technologies for surveillance, information gathering and intelligence-led policing.
The conference concluded with renewed emphasis on revitalising Beat-Level Policing and making it more visible and effective at the grassroots level.
The participating officers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening field-level policing, improving interaction with local communities and adopting technology-driven approaches to enhance preventive policing and public safety across Kashmir.
