30-Day Deadline Expires Without Order; Interns Threaten Hunger Strike

Srinagar, Oct 20th :

MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir have launched an indefinite strike, accusing the government of failing to honour its written commitment on stipend enhancement despite the expiry of the stipulated 30-day deadline.

The protesting interns said government record notes dated September 4 and 9 had assured finalisation of the matter within 30 days, but no formal order has been issued so far.

Decrying what they termed prolonged administrative apathy, the interns said repeated representations had failed to yield any concrete outcome, eroding their confidence in further assurances.

They vowed to continue the agitation until the stipend hike order is formally issued and warned of intensifying the protest, including a hunger strike, if the government continued to delay the decision.

The interns urged the authorities to translate their written commitment into action, asserting that they would no longer settle for assurances without implementation.
