SRINAGAR, JULY 12 :
The Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Monday paid rich tributes to the Martyrs of July 13, 1931 on their 90th martyrdom anniversary.
As per a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a prayer meeting was held at the party’s central office Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal, in keeping with Covid protocols, in which party members paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of July 13 and to all those since then who have sacrificed their lives for the realisation of the aspirations and rights of the struggling people of J&K.
AAC said that since its inception in 1963 and before that during the days of Muslim Conference, the party has been commemorating this day, under the leadership of Mohajir-e-Millat, Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah and then under Shaheed-e-Millat, Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq as youm-e-shuhada-e-Kashmir (Martyrs day) and now under the chairmanship of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
“This day was the watershed moment in the contemporary history of J&K, when 22 Kashmiris were killed in cold blood by the rulers of the day leading to the launch of the political agitation by the people of Kashmir for the realisation of their political and economic rights and aspirations,” it said.
It said that this year due to Covid-19 pandemic and the two-year-long house arrest of the AAC Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, the congregational tributes and march to Martyrs’ Graveyard to pay tributes to July 13, 1931 martyrs was suspended—(KNO)
