Kupwara, July 08 :

Abdul Majeed Paindth was Saturday elected as the new president of Municipal Committee Handwara after winning by a margin of a single vote.

Officials told the news agency that two candidates had filed their nominations for the pots of chairman including former president Masroor Banday and Abdul Majeed Pandith.

They said that Abdul Majeed got 7 while Masroor managed only 6 out of the total 13 votes.

Notably, on June 08 former president was ousted after failing to prove his majority against a no-confidence motion filed by other councillors.

Municipal Committee Handwara has a total of 13 elected councillors.
