Due to snowfall roads blocked and power supply hit in Uri Sub Division

Baramulla: Amid the blocked off roads due to heavy snowfall in frontier sub-division Uri, the villagers in Hillan Hakpathri in Pehalipora Boniyar area of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have to carry a pregnant woman on stretcher warped under polythene for several miles to reach the hospital in Boniyar.

Without losing any time, the villagers wrapped her in a quilt and carried her in a makeshift cot in a 3 feet snow to reach nearest public health centre Boniyar Uri.

Locals of the village said that amid heavy snowfall they had to foot several kilometers to take her to hospital after she complained pain but roads of the area was closed so they ferried her on cot.

Mohammad Saleem Khattana , husband of the pregnant lady said, “After my wife complained pain we tried to take her to hospital but road was closed. ASHA worker accompanied us and informed the hospital authorities for ambulance but due to closure of roads with heavy snowfall no vehicle couldn’t reach.”

“Given the exigency, I along with my neighbours carried her on a cot upto four ve kilometers from where we boarded the hospital ambulance near Peerinaya national highway,” he added.

Urging the authorities to clear the snow clogged roads, Khattana seconded by several others asked for restoration of roads to avoid any difficulty to the patients and commoners alike. 

Meanwhile BMO Boniyar Dr. Pervaiz Masoodi that the pregnant lady’s expecting date of delivery (EDD) is on January 09 and there was no emergency as such but viral video on social media wants to send a wrong message that there is no health facility available which is baseless.

“The EDD is on 9 January and directions have been already passed to all ASHAs, officials concerned to evacuate all the women expecting deliveries’ in coming days to avert any emergency. The pregnant lady was also informed by Asha but she didn’t get herself admitted before heavy snowfall. The patient is safe and yet to deliver.

Meanwhile, many hilly areas of Sub Division Uri including Nawa, Runda, Gowalan, Sukhdar, Churanda, Batgrah, Sohra, Hathlanga, Mohthal, upper Nambla, upper Garkote, Zamoorpatan, Maya, Lachipora, Bijhama, Babagale, Limber, Hillan, Phalipora, Chotali, Dudran, Banali and Tarkajan Boniyar received fresh snowfall.

Many roads blocked and power supply to a large number of snow bound areas has been snapped in Sub Division Uri.

Meanwhile JKNC District President Baramulla Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri urged administration to Clear snow on roads and restore power supply on War footing Basis in District Baramulla especially far-flung areas of Sub Division Uri, Rafiabad, Tangmarg, Wagora, so that people do not suffer any more.
