The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) on Saturday recovered 800 kilogram poppy straw like substance near Sonamarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
In a statement a spokesperson said that today ANTF recieved an input regarding smuggling of narcotic substance in two trucks, that are plying from the Kashmir valley to Leh.
“Upon receipt of this information a team of ANTF was constituted which rushed towards Sonmarg and with the help of District Police Ganderbal, intercepted two trucks bearing registration no PB 07 AL 2229, and HP 55B 0711. Upon search of these vehicles 800 kg of poppy straw like substance was recovered,” reads the statement.
It reads that on further investigation it came to the fore that one vehicle carrying poppy straw had already crossed the valley.
“This 3rd vehicle was intercepted near Leh and poppy straw like substance weighing in quintals was recovered. Two individuals driving the trucks have been arrested from the valley and one from Leh so far,” it reads.
It reads that total 1000 kgs of Poppy Straw has been recovered which is one of the biggest catch in the recent past.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this matter, and more arrests are expected after backward and forward linkages are looked into,” it reads.
