Uri, November 16: Following the national movement against child labor, an intensive campaign was carried out in the border towns of Uri and Boniyar in Baramulla district on Saturday under the Pan India initiative by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Unit, Child Helpline, Labor Department, and Police Department.

During the campaign, 11 children involved in labor were identified, rescued, and handed over to their legal guardians. Authorities issued strict warnings to parents, hotel owners, bakery shopkeepers, and transporters, including drivers, urging them to refrain from employing children in any form of labor. The campaign stressed strict compliance with child protection laws and highlighted the importance of combating this social menace.

Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Waseem Hassan Paray, condemned the practice of child labor, stating, “Child labor is a grave violation of children’s rights and a serious hindrance to their future. We urge parents to prioritize their children’s education and ensure they are enrolled in schools or Anganwadi centers. A collective effort from the community is essential to eradicate child labor and secure a brighter future for our children. If you witness any form of child abuse or exploitation, please report it immediately to the Child Helpline at 1098.”

Labor Officer Nandini Pandita echoed the sentiments, saying, “Employing children in labor is a punishable offense, and strict action will be taken against those violating the law. It is our collective responsibility as a society to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Together, we can put an end to child labor and create a more equitable future.”

The campaign not only rescued children but also raised awareness among the public about the legal and moral implications of child labor, reaffirming the commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of every child.
